Uninvited from the Wedding

Warm-up Questions: (1) Do you enjoy weddings? What do you like or dislike about them? (2) Where was the last wedding that you went to?

A group of women celebrating at a bachelorette party.
A group of women celebrating at a bachelorette party.

My boyfriend (35M) is the best man for his best friend’s wedding. It’s a destination wedding at a very expensive resort. I (31F) was invited as his plus one, and we already paid for flights and hotel.

I met the bride and groom before. I was friendly with them and even joined their bachelor/bachelorette weekend trip. I thought we all had fun. But recently the bride told my boyfriend, through the groom, that I am not invited anymore. The groom didn’t seem happy about it, but said it was her choice.

The bride thinks I didn’t make her feel special and maybe tried to take attention away from her. Honestly, I don’t agree. My boyfriend and other friends also think it’s a misunderstanding. For example, she started to dislike me after I beat her at Mario Kart and people cheered.

I told my boyfriend I’m open to talking with her to fix this. But even if she changes her mind, I’m not sure I want to go. Why go to a place where I’m not welcome?

What hurts is if my boyfriend still goes without me. It feels like he is choosing his friend instead of supporting me. Am I wrong for asking him not to go if I can’t?
